A surprise visitor...

I wasn't expecting a fox to appear on the camera traps that I set out. This particular setup was there for three nights, so it must have come to check out the scent of food. Hardly surprising was that the Pine Marten didn't show at all for the rest of the night here.

When compared side by side, foxes are much bigger than Pine Marten and are obviously dominant.

We did actually witness this fox chase off a Pine Marten in the garden on the last night at the cottage.

We also had many visits from the Pine Marten's bigger relative; Badgers.

The Badgers would forage on the floor picking up fallen peanuts and hazel nuts that the messy Pine Marten had dropped from the branches above. One particularly adventurous Badger even climbed up the picnic bench on the search for food.
