Join me in photographing the iconic Red Grouse on the North York Moors. These workshops are focused during the summer months between July and September to coincide with the beautiful pink carpet of heather that the Moors are famous for.
The workshop is aimed at beginner and amateur photographers who would like to learn either the basics or more advanced camera techniques.
It's best to get up there first thing in the morning as, if the weather is on our side, photographing Red Grouse in a sea of pink heather at sunrise is magic. It is also when the birds are active, but we can start the day whenever suits you. We'll be able to achieve images throughout the day.
As with all my workshops I approach each in a relaxed and informative way. I make it my personal goal to ensure you come away with some great photos from the day.
We'll start the day by meeting in Helmsley and immediately head up to where the birds are found. Once we're there we'll quickly go over camera settings and then begin photographing - we don't want to miss the early morning light. The birds can be quite skittish so good fieldcraft is needed to get good images of them. I'll be on hand to anticipate the birds' behaviour and go through any technical aspects of photography needed.
I always recommend sturdy footwear and layers of clothing. While we'll be there in the summer months the day can start cold while the sun rises. I will advise any special requirements for footwear/clothing depending on subject and time of year at the booking stage.
